Beschrijving This is the story of the skating champion Sverre Farstad and his two friends from Trondheim who made up the Falken trio - the all-time winningest club unit of skaters, regardless of country. The book describes how Farstad, Henry Wahl and Hjallis took the step from interwar working-class sports and growing up in the tough district of Lademoen to an unreal amount of medals and records - and hero status in skating-crazy Norway after five years of occupation. Together with the charismatic leader Karl Brechan, they laid the foundations for Trønder's dominance in a number of sports after the Second World War. "Free as a falcon", penned by his son Hasse, tells the story of temperamental and individualistic Sverre Farstad, who was and remained his own man. Uncompromising both in sport and profession. He ended the day as a top athlete when he had achieved his goals – Olympic gold and overall victory in skating. Sverre Farstad's early years were filled with competitions in all kinds of sports, and from the age of 14 also factory work, unemployment and life as a sailor alternately. After his career, he distinguished himself as a journalist in Arbeiderbladet and leader of the Tenants' Association. As a federation coach, he worked before the Olympics in 1956 for a skating revolution in Norway, but the project ended in a breach with the Norwegian Skating Federation.
