Beschrijving In this book we describe the development of speed skating through time and across the world. We will pay attention to many different types of races that were developed for speed skating on ice and speed skating on inline skates. Although these two sports look very similar, they developed very differently. The best way to see how the speed skating is changing is by looking at videos of speed skating races. Therefore, in this book, I refer to my website (skatingstories.weebly.com) where on the home page a “list of videos” is mentioned containing the links to 89 videos numbered from (1) to (89). In the book, the corresponding video number is presented at the appropriate place in the text. For example, number (1) is a video called Ghiotto wins the 10,000m. This is a video of 2023 which shows that he skated with an average speed of 46km/h as if it costed hardly any force.
