Zoon van de metselaar Andreas Hendrik Moerkerken (Mijnsheerenland, 1803). Cornelis Moerkerken wordt smid in Hoornaar. Volgens overlevering heeft hij schaatsen gemaakt. In juni 1916 verhuist hij naar ’s Gravendeel.
