Beschrijving
Zoon van de landbouwer Gabe Egberts Westra (Hurdegaryp, 1807). Westra is tussen mei 1862 en mei 1864 smidsknecht bij de schaatsenmakende smid Sije Hamstra in Aldtsjerk. Later vestigt hij zich als zelfstandig smid in Hurdegaryp en maakt hier ook schaatsen.
