Op 1 maart 1881 richtten de schaatsenmakers David en Richard Göbel de firma Gebr. Göbel op. In het adresboek van Remscheid 1884 staat defirma genoteerd als fabriek voor het maken van schaatshouten.
In het adresboek van Remscheid uit 1901 staat alleen de naam van David Göbel bij de firma vermeld.
