Mauritius Hendrikus Franciscus de Wild is zoon van timmerman, aannemer, koopman Hendirtkus Gerardus de Wild (Millingen, 1818 – Vlissingen, 1876). Hij is successievelijk ijzerkoper, koopman en winkelier van beroep.
Verkoopmerk (M De W A) van M. de Wild is van rond 1902. Het bedrijf krijgt vanaf ca 1905 de naam N.V. Hollandsche IJzermagazijn.
